Market Ratings
The independent MR1-MR5/NR scale for tradable-market quality and integrity.
Draft v0.1 — design contract, not yet a live service
This documentation set defines a proposed Time Seventeen protocol for review and implementation planning. https://api.t17.capital is the approved and reserved REST origin, but neither that origin nor any documented endpoint is claimed to be live. The WebSocket origin remains unspecified. Credentials, chain IDs, contract addresses, rate limits, and SLAs remain unapproved; IDs, prices, and timestamps shown throughout are illustrative, not real production data.
Market Rating assesses whether a prediction market is clear, resolvable, observable, liquid, and resistant to operational or manipulation risk. It is a Time Seventeen–owned scale, not a credit rating, and it does not predict or measure the real-world severity of the event a market tracks — that is a completely separate resource, described in Severity.
Independent from Severity Assessment
Market Rating measures whether a market is a trustworthy, tradable instrument. It never derives from, embeds, or is derived from a Severity Assessment. No rating payload contains severity fields, and no severity payload contains rating fields.
Scale
| Band | Meaning |
|---|---|
MR1 | Strongest observed market quality under the stated methodology |
MR2 | Strong quality with limited weaknesses |
MR3 | Usable with material limitations |
MR4 | Weak/restricted quality; elevated caution |
MR5 | Unacceptable for normal index eligibility |
NR | Not rated or insufficient evidence |
Component scores
Every Market Rating carries six required component scores, each independently scored under the rating methodology version:
resolution_clarity— how unambiguous the resolution rule and resolution source are.source_reliability— how trustworthy and available the resolution source and venue reporting are.liquidity— depth, spread, and volume sufficiency for reliable pricing.manipulation_resistance— resistance to wash trading, spoofing, or resolution manipulation.data_quality— completeness and consistency of the venue’s price/order data feed.venue_operational_risk— the operational reliability of the hosting venue (uptime, incident history, custody model).
Assessment record fields
Beyond the component scores, each Market Rating carries: overall score, band, outlook/watch status, confidence, evidence references, a concise human-readable rationale, an effective interval, review state, methodology version, issuer kind (model, analyst, committee), and supersession/dispute/override/withdrawal/correction metadata.
Append-only history, never overwritten
A Market Rating is never overwritten in place. A later assessment supersedes an earlier one via supersedes_id, while the original remains permanently readable — preserving a full, auditable rating timeline for every Market. Reviews, disputes, overrides, withdrawals, and corrections are all recorded as distinct events on this timeline rather than silent edits.
Machine-readable scores plus human rationale
Every assessment keeps the six component scores machine-readable (for filtering, index eligibility rules, and programmatic risk checks) alongside a concise rationale intended for a human reader, so neither representation is the only source of truth.
